I see you live in Texas as does Allen Nelson. I would give him a call so he could do a custom dyno tune and you will NOT regret it.

What do you mean by "trimming" the valve guides? I've never heard of this before. At what lift does trimming become necessary?

Trimming is another way of saying the top of the valve guide boss is lowered by remachining it. Naturally the head needs to be removed. On these motors, it can be necessary at "around" .480 lift.

I'll call Nelson but I'm still not so sure the stock tune is the cause of the miss. Don't deny that it won't help power and driveability though. I ran it on a friends scanner and I'm getting the random misfire code which points to ignition probems but I've eliminated those by replacement except for the coil. Naturally, this truck didn't miss a lick before the cam.

i cant say much about the cam install, seeing as i have not done one YET.

but for your header swap in, i had an issue with bad missfiring, and dying in gear. within i would say 30 minutes of messing with it, it all went away,

one more note, going down to san antonio to get my nelson tune after the header install, i used practically the entire tank of gas, on the way back, half a tank.

and a HELL of a difference
