Default Installed K&N FIPK on my '01 GMC

I'm wanting to do some basic mods to my truck to net a little more power, and I started with the K&N induction kit. I decided on the K&N because it replaces everything from the throttle body on. The other stuff out there like the AirAid is nothing more than a filter with a heat shield. I can't understand paying money just to get a filter. K&N's kit is all quality stuff. The instructions are clear, and everything fits together like they say it should. It took me right at 45 minutes to install, and I was really taking my time.
Once I had it all bolted up, I double-checked all of the connections and fired it up. I take it out for a test-drive, and it has a little more roar to it on down-shifts at 1/2 throttle. At WOT, it really roars and pulls pretty nice. You can definitely feel the SOTP gain.
The next mod I'm considering is a Gibson catback. One of their systems offered is specifically designed to NOT kill your bottom-end torque. I had it on my '99 GMC, and it was great. It's not much louder than stock, but it provides you with a nice gain. What's even better is that you can bolt it all up in your garage.

I think pretty much K&N, Airraid, and Volant all are about the same. For the money I would buy a K&N. I agree, when I pulled my Airraid out of the box I was like WTF I even called them to ask about it. Oh well I used it anyway. The main problem I have with an Airraid is the shield rusts down here near the coast at least. I have pulled mine out cleaned off the rust and used spray on bedliner coating to water proof it. Then I painted the inside to match the color of the truck

Yeah, I love mine! This is my second FIPK I had a one on my old Cherokee too. When you get your exhaust work done you notice a big difference. They work great together. Check out my pictures
