The hardest part of the install IMO was removing the harmonic balancer. I was able to do it with a reg. 3-jaw puller but it was damn near impossible...Im sure there is a special puller for it, somebody here will know though. Also installing the balancer was a PITA. you have to get it on far enough in order for the bolt to have enough threads to suck it up. I have heard of heating-up the balancer in an oven to around 200 degrees which will expand it allowing it to slip on ...but I haven't tried it first hand...I called HPE and my machine shop and they both said to beat it on which I reluctantly did worrying about messing up any end play. You "should" get a new harmonic balancer bolt since it's a torque to yield style. Also, right before you pull out the camshaft rotate it around by hand a couple of times. Doing this will seat the lifters in their plastic holding tray, allowing you to pull out the camshaft with out them falling in.

Get yourself a nice valve spring compressor. VHP has a nice dual spring compressor. Trust me it worth every penny.

Yah i am a bit worried about jsut spinning the cam and yaankign ti out..last thing i want is a lifter to drop out..then im f'd..but the tools are alot of money. safe or sorry???lol...

I was also looking at the crane vavle spring compressor for the LSx's..seems to be a nice piece.

So a front cam seal and water pump gasket? also gonna get myself a fitting so I can comopress the cylinders so the valves dont dump out

You can also use 5/16 wood or steel dowls to hold the lifters up.

+1 on the wood dowels... used them successfuly on 3 cam installs...

also a +1 to the Crane Cams compressor... I have it, and it ALSO was used on the 3 installs... did all springs in 10 minutes with the tool to air-up the cylinder to keep the valves from falling... took alot longer the TDC way.
