Scotchbrite works well but GM wont warranty engien work if they find evidence of its use. This was part of a billetin issued by GM to dealerships years ago. The small particles are murder on engine parts. Theres no way to "effectivley" clean the engien afterwards unless you strip the engine down.

These are the ones that I use and have been using for years. We had a few head gasket recalls on the Toyota V6 trucks and 4Runners years back, and I used to use those discs to clean the aluminum heads on a daily basis. Just like with any rotational tool, you have to keep moving or you'll start digging...these discs are much more forgiving though if you happen to space out

They're even cheaper than that, the 75-80 bucks you saw was for a box of 10. But anyway, I have 8 - 3" disks, 10 - 2" and 10 - 1" disks if anyone wants any just let me know! I'm about to start cleaning my head gasket surface, pistons and heads with them tonight, I'll take some before and after pics of how they do!

I honestly didn't even think about it that way with the pistons...guess I'll find out soon enough. As far as the ring lands go I don't really have a plan. My replacement motor only has 50k miles on the clock and I wasn't even planning on pulling the pistons out of the block.
