Default Intake Manifold Choices

Ok guys. I'm looking into my next mod, I'm thinking intake manifold, I'm still on the truck intake and I'm tired of it holding me back. I'm going to go to a 90mm throttle body regardless.

Truck is an 2002, 5.3L, 216/220 .532/.525 cam, 243 heads, 3200 stall, shift points around 6200.

There are a couple of options out there that I'm looking at.

Edelbrock PRO-FLO XT - $450 operation range of 1500 - 6500 -- This is my current top choice.

LS6 intake - I don't really what the operation range or flow is on this

NNBS intake - Another one, I don't really know the range or flow.

FAST 90 -- This one is a little bit more than I'm wanting to pay for one, but, if it fits what I'm wanting to do, I may have to spend the money.

Procomp 22064 - 96mm opening intake - Operating range 1500 - 6500

The Holly "Ram Air" intake.

There are just so many choices. I'm not planning boost, maybe a small shot of nitrous. I just know I need more air above 5400 RPM.

The tbss intake is you best option. Unless your making 500 hrsp there's no need for a fast. The high rise intakes are best suited for engines larger than a 4" bore. Stay away from the car intakes as the shorter runner will sacrifice torque and that's what makes these pigs move out. You simply don't move enough air for any of those. I gained 20 hrsp with mine.

Holley midram intake would be my top choice

I may be going to 4+ inch bore at some point in the future, but that bridge I can cross when I get to it.

I thought that the shorter the intake runner, the more low end grunt you got out of the intake?

I do like this answer, because it's the cheapest answer.

Opposite shorter the runner, more top end hp becAuse it will breathe better up top but longer runner will create more low end grunt but suffer some up top. I haven't heard anything about the Holley midram so is like to see you be the test dummy

Well it keeps the runners the same lenght as the tbss intake and well if youre going larger bore in the future it would benifit you aswell. You could get it ported too. İ have a buddy using the hi ram but has to spin his motor a lil too high for comfort. Now with shorter runner im sure itll be the most ideal intake

Keep in mind guys... I've got to use a DBC throttle body with this, and I'm not seeing any way to provision that intake for DBC... I guess I could drill and tap the intake to hold the throttle cable bracket.

It does look like it'd work well for my application... Essentially it's a dual plain EFI intake.

One area to look at is heat soak. I am not happy with the heat soak my intake gets after sitting for any period of time. My intake will stay hot for about 2 hrs after sitting. Aluminum will pull th eengine heat, and it gets so hot you cant keep your hand on it. If this is not a concern, I like all other aspects of the Pro Flo. I will actually be sending mine out to get ceramic coated this winter. I want to coat the flange where it mates against the head, inside of the runners, and inside of the plenum to solve this problem.

This was/is something I'm looking into, obviously the LS6 , NNBS, FAST intake wins hands down when it comes to heat soak, being composite. Really though, how big of a problem is heat soak with a mild build like mine where I'm not running boost? My IAT's currently are usually only a degree or two above ambient temp unless I sit for a while.
