If I need, I pull down to 3rd and it locks and I can pull a decent grade and 60-65.

What if I swap the rear gear from 3.90 to a 4.56 with 34in tires?

I have the 80e and final drive ratio of .75.

At 75mph I come up with around 2600 RPM.
You need a tighter stall. After reading that about the trailer, kids etc etc. All of that is making the stall you have slip far more.

Gears would help, but I really think you wouldn't be happy going that direction. It would make a minor difference in the roll out, and the initial hit of throttle to get the truck moving would still run the stall up pretty high but the actual roll out would be lightly improved and then your highway rpm would jump significantly and you'd **** fuel out the tail pipe and personally I don't think you would be happy. Personally I think you're already geared high enough being at 2600 at 75, I'd be a little unhappy about that already.

With the new larger/heavier wheels and tires, trailer and a truck load of people. You're gonna need around a 2500 in my opinion, and with a full *** load trailer and all it's still gonna be a hair looser than you would like... maybe?? it's all so different between each person but yeah man, I would absolutely start with the converter.

I hope it gets it where you want it man. That triple disc will be nice being able to tow heavy loads in lockup and even lock it in WOT if you want.

Out of curiosity, was it kinda banging into lockup before because it was slipping so much? Mine would do that it felt like it was hitting another gear when the lock up locked. If it was that should calm down a lot too.

It banged early on until I softened the lockup. Right now it’s a nice shift and locks and holds 4th while towing.

I called and talked to them for a little bit and he agreed that my current stall is a big energy waster.

Thanks for the help.

New converter was on the porch when we got back from trip #2. This time in the mountains.

I was able to pull down into 2nd with the converter locked with the current converter and lugged up the mountains at about 2500-2700 RPMs. I changed PE mode to come in @ 40% and I didn't hear any pinging. Trans temps stayed under 200 most of the time except for once where it got to be around 210 and coolant was running about 200 with the 160 thermostat and cooled back down to normal after about 3-4min. I don't think I have a cooling issue at all.

I may still change the cam and see how it does. The 222/224 with the later IVC isn't helping my low end much either.

All in all, it did well, considering the loose *** converter.

I'd probably switch to 4.56s first. Those aren't helping with 34" tires.

Have brand new Motives in the garage. Not opposed to changing them but I’m changing the stall first.

I can't think of anything on these trucks than I'd rather not do before gears.
I can do um with good results, still don't like doin them gears

I advised against gears since he's already at 2600 rpm at 75. Put 4.56's in there and you'll be limited to around 65-70 mph cruising speed. That would suck.
