Interesting, if he knows what he's talking about. Either way, it makes you think. It's not the first time I've heard the stock intake tube has that lower baffle on it for reasons other than sound suppression. I'm running the stock air box and using a paper filter, you know it's been modified with a ram-air set up. I'm using an after market intube though, I may put the stock one on just for **** and giggles. My truck did seem to loose low end when I had the K&N FIPK and the UPD using a K&N filter. The UPD actually seem to work better with a paper filter. Umm <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

The guy has a point about cool air, but blew it when it came to airflow. A UPD air intake utilizes the stock air box, which ensures the motor gets cool air from the fender (just like stock). That kills that arguement. The air sliencers DO restrict airflow on the stock air tube though. Switching to a UPD has been dyno proven to give you at least 10rwhp and around a tenth of a second gain in the 1/4 mile. Makes me believe the stock intake can be improved upon. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> Why don't you actually try some back to back testing or listen to those of us who have? The UPD works. If you keep your stock intake, you risk falling a tenth behind your opponent.

Another thing he says about having more chambered air available on the OEM tube??? The UPD also has a much bigger lid than stock instead of the ******* on the OEM tube. So I would bet that cancels out. But where he says the OEM tube has the least turbulance, I just can't believe that. As far as the K&N getting hot air, I just don't believe all that crap either. Well, I just tried a little experiment and it didn't go well. I put the stock intake tube back on and it felt good at first. It did seem to have more low end but it falls on it's face quickly. My 0-60 time was slower by about .15 seconds compared to the DJ motorsports intake tube I'm using, that's big. I put the DJ tube back on, experiment over!

Hell I'ran my truck with stock box and filter and it ran quicker down the track than with the dropin K&N on the same night. I've tried both at the track, paper is better for me. It gets expensive replacing them, I replace the air filter every other oil change, every 6K I put a new air filter in.

The aftermarket straight walled tube creates resonance through poor harmonics; it's an engineering thing believe it... The K&N gets more hot air than the oem box... The sheet metal enclosure is not 100% closed off, and it suffers heat soak through IR transfer, because it's metal, and metal radiates heat more than polymer...

The oem tube has air reserve near the TB to aid in tip-in, hence getting the puwer curve ball rolling sooner...

Run it on the dyno after you give the PCM about 200 miles of learn time to change the long term fuel trims ... You can't just go from one to the other and expect the PCM to relearn that quickly...

The guy that copied this from the cafcna site drives a dodge... I guess "YOU'RE" not too smart... LOL

Anytime you want to tap an engineer's head on flow patterns, you just pop over to cafcna, and visit the perf forum... you'll also find the plans for a cold air kit that makes true dyno power in the 6HP range... That's as good as it's gonna get on a new vortec...I would be a lot nicer if you guys challenged me the right way instead of chastizing me on a forum I don't belong to ... good day

I didn't read all your crap. I do know that the stock air tube / box is not the most efficient design available.

Ltrims are derived from O2 data during normal driving (closed loop) and would play no part what so ever on a dyno. Learn your stuff before you start posting here. :b
