i think the stock 5.3 bore is 3.78 from what we looked up in the scat book

and i dont plan on having him do the work on it, i'll take it to someone who has done work on LS motors

i talked to an engine builder in dallas today, he said he will vat and magnaflux the block, bore and deck it, install cam bearings and freeze plugs, polish the cam i have (tr224), mill the heads .030 for $250 then after i get the short block assembled he will balance the rotating assembly for another $200

Stock 5.3 bore is 3.775 and stock LS1 bore is 3.898; so you'd need to have it bored .123.

could a 5.3 be turned into a 383? if so how many quarts of oil n such would you need?

as long as you have the stock oil pan, 6 quarts.

I'm a bit puzzled by this question. You are talking about major engine modifications and you are worried about the amount of oil required? One step at a time.

Please explain this reasoning, because I must be missing something.

the oil pan determines how much oil the engine needs not the displacement

sorry it was late when i posted that question...

ive been wanting todo a iron block 5.7 for some time now... but my main question is can the 5.3 turned into a 383? or should i just stick to the idea of making it to the LS6 specs?

i know whatever oil pan i use will be how much oil is used, which id plan on just using the stock pan that is on there now...
