The truck will stay my daily driver with mods being limited to CAI and a Magnaflow muffler. I would like to stay with 87 octane if at all possiable, but I keep hearing great things about the higher octane tunes. Are the 91/93 tunes justifiable as far as performance increaces and gas prices are concerned? If its only 5-7hp or so difference ill stay with the 87 tune, but if there is big power to be had, I would consider paying for higer octane. The removal of some/all of the TM will be my main concern as it sucks *****. Any other advise as to what tuning I should have done for a daily driver?

the higher octane tune is usually made up for in fuel milage.

Well, I can't tell you about the lower octane tunes, but I enjoy knowing I got the most/best performance availble for money spent Besides though, you can always get another free tune (minus shipping) with other octanes so you can justify if it's worth the extra money spent for 93. It's just nice knowing you can smoke other stock trucks by far because you've got a poweful tune!

Default Milage Improved with The 93 Tune

As for the 87-89-93 differences, call Nelson.
My 03 ECSB Z71 4X4 milage improved. 90 % TM removed. The first tune was 50% and the 90 % is MUCH better.
After you get your tune get (borrow) a live dianostics reader like say a predator. Record your Short & Long Terms, Spark, and o2 readings and call Nelson, for an evaluation and he will adjust another tune and send it to you if needed.
I don't have lots of mods, see signature, but the truck is better than the average bear around here. Fun.

Just received my nelson tune today by mail for a stock 03 Reg. cab SWB. 5.3, 3.73.

91 octane, removed 100% engine TQ management and 80% transmission TQ management.

Only have about 35 miles on it, but I do have a noticeable difference.
I was told that there could be continued improvement over a few hundred miles which should be great..

Theres a tune that allows using 87-91 octane, but I went 91 only, because this allowed to tune for more performance...as I was told....after I asked.

..only 91 octane gas around where I live.

....the new Vararam filter/intake looks interesting. I'll wait for more reviews and maybe have a look myself..

Allen could do a dual oct. tune if you wanted. But the more you drive the better the tune gets. Also if you all or most of tq management removed make sure you install a shift kit and servos to help the trans better.

I called Nelsons today, and left a message. If thier tuning quality is anything close to resembling thier customer service, then im in good hands. The first suprise was when they actually returned my call, very courteous I thought. He was extremely helpful in filling in the blank spots that I had questions about, and even though Im sure he gets asked the same questions a hundred times a day he was very detailed in his explaniations and not in a rush to get off the phone at all. I think I will be going with a 91/93 octane tune and with about 80% TM removed, he didnt push me into this, but you could tell that he felt I would be happier with the higher octane tune and more TM removed. Ill be taking my truck to San Antonio in the first part of Oct to let him work his magic, Ill report all findings as soon as I can.
