He could but then he would need to go to a 4.56 gear because the T56 has a 2.66 low gear and a .50 6th. I orginally installed my T56 with 3.42's and 6th gear was useless. I then went to 4.10's which was better but the 4.56's are about right and 4.88's would be better if a trailer was pulled much or if tire diameter was over 30".

Thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll be wanting to start making it my own as soon as I take delivery on it. First thing is that factory quiet muffler has got to go. And I'll probably stick with a flowmaster just because I love the sound, and with a manual they really sound awesome.

I hope the trans doesn't give me too much trouble, but it'll be under warranty for a long while, as long I don't void the warranty anyway.

I have a spare one with 30K miles on it if you ever need one.

Got the truck today! Runs good, but like I said lacking in the low end torque department.

What is the factory rev limiter set to? 5600?

After doing a Flowmaster and HPP III would the BEST performance upgrade without voiding warranty be a 3.73?

Remember it's five speed. I would assume that low end would definately improve going from 3.42 to 3.73.

Did you not read anything I wrote above about the gear ratio's of a 5 speed vs. an auto? You will not like 3.73's in a 2wd truck with a 5 speed, to low, you won't go 50 feet before you have to shift. I had 3.73's in a V6 5speed 4x4 with 30" tires and that was OK and I have had 5-5speed trucks with 3.42's some with posi's and they were just right.

I looked on a Chevy site and it said the 4.8 was 270hp or 275hp in the larger trucks. Th e 5.3 is (through 2004) 285hp stock. My salesman told me the 4.8 was 285 but I don't think that's right.
I got mine in March for 16.6k....seemed like a good price to me. I traded a 2002 Sonoma 2.2L that was too small and too slow..even with 5 spd and 3.73 rear...after 2nd gear it was a real dog.
