Yeah today I will put the intake tube on, grille, radiator cover, etc. I'm going to then jack the truck up and spray all the antifreeze and oil off the frame and wipe everything down by hand. I gotta clean my headers too as they have a lot of oily hand prints on them from putting the spark plugs back in. #8 and #7 were a SOB to put in with the OBX's. Otherwise everything else was pie. Today is going to be a clean up and detail day, then I'm going to do some idle tuning and then work into the street tuning. It's funny how well the new cam runs in comparison to the old 218/224 I had in there. I haven't even run a CASE learn on it yet or anything. Maybe I'll have it fully tuned by the end of the week and new DYNO numbers. Yes I degreed the new cam in, I didn't bother to check my old one before taking it out as I had too much **** going on to care. Hopefully 390RWHP and 390 RWTQ this time around. The new cam is a 224/228 .6xx/.6xx lift with a 112 LSA +x Sorry guys, can't share all my secrets

Curious how you degree'd the cam, did you pull the heads?

No need to pull the heads - I just used a piston stop, degree wheel and a dial indicator on #1 intake pushrod.

I found out Hirdle's dirty little secret: Helm's service manual

I got a 1 year susbscription to ALLDATA for $22 (same thing as Helm's GM manual in digital format) and with this honestly I feel like I can tackle anything now short of tearing into the transmission. It tells you how to do everything in good detail, all torque values, etc.


To Hirdle:

You became a victim of your own preaching: keep the engine with what GM sent it out with 99% of the time. You went through all that hassle of changing out the oil pump and timing chain for nothing. I took one look through the manual for replacing the oil pump and said screw that.

Of course, I'm sure everything would have been a lot easier if you had a garage to work in. I know I wish I had one; it would be so nice to be able to park the truck in the garage for several days and just take a cam swap nice and slow, doing a little each day.
