Default Just installed XE 216 cam in 5.3L

My buddy and I recently installed my old XE 216/216 .538" 114 cam in his 02 5.3L truck and all I can say is WOW. That cam seems to have added more power to his truck than it did to my car. His only other mods are Dynomax muffler and no cats. The cam idles a little rough at stock idle, so we bumped it up to 700 in gear and it has a nice little lump to it. It pulls hard all the way to his 6000 rpm shift points. The nice thing about this cam is that it has faster ramps than the traditional Comp 216/220 cam and also has higher lift. He's running 26915 springs w/ stock pushrods.

No, my buddy drove it for a few days w/out tuning. It did stall a few times on him though, but I think that could have been solved by drilling the TB hole a little bit, but we just used LS1 edit since we had it anyway. We havent put it on a wideband, but I suspect that its running a tad rich, by the odor of the talipipe.

Also, the truck seems to have retained its low rpm power, unlike w/ the LS6 cam. This cam was installed w/ a 110* ICL to keep the power down lower in the rev range.

Did your buddy have the LS6 cam in the truck before the 116 XE?

I was just saying that from what I've heard of the LS6 cam in trucks...not much low end torque due to the cam being retarded by 2-3 degrees and having a LSA of 116-117.

any idea on what gains this cam made? would it be a good cam for occasional nitrous use? do you need to repace any other valvetrain parts<springs, retainers, ect..>?
