Just lost all oil pressure 2003 LQ4
I went in to visit my mom for a few minutes and when I went back out and started the truck, it was tapping and the gauge said Check Oil Pressure; it was at 0. I turned it off ASAP. It was normal all day today and suddenly it is at 0.
It is definitely not a gauge problem because I heard the tapping before I even looked down at the cluster.
It is a 2003 LQ4 with about 95k miles.
Did the oil pump crap out? Is there anything it could be besides the oil pump?
Thanks.

I replaced the O ring a little over a year ago when I had to install a new piston. So I'm guessing it might be the relief valve.
The funny thing is when I changed the oil a week ago, I thought there was more material on the magnet then usual, but not enough to alarm me. Maybe my oil pump was already self destructing. Or maybe it just sucked in a piece of debris tonight. I guess I'll know next week. I don't feel like messing with it right now.
What is a good pump to go with? I might as well buy a high quality pump while I'm in there.

Careful on the high end oil pump. I have asked around about adding a high volume on mine and suposidly it will pump everything up top and run the pan dry. I have seen the high volume and a ported oil pump. I don't know the differences on these so if anyone can help explain it could help both of us out.

changed my oil pump last month for the same reason, it had debri from the cam retainer plate and sprocket wearing. Change pump retainer plate and sprocket and running good since.

I drained the oil and opened the filter and didn't find any debris. I'll be going to TSP tomorrow to pick up a new pump and LS2 timing chain. If they have everything in stock, I might have it running by Thursday night. I'll be sure to check for wear around the sprockets like the one guy said.
