I agree with you, to me it doesnt sound like a rod bearing.. did you actually try to move any of the rockers to see if there was any play? Did you roll the motor over and watch the rockers and see if there was one that looked odd?

Yes, I have and I really didn't notice anything. Lets say that I stop the motor while a certain spring is compressed so a valve is open, and the spring slowly starts to de-compress by itself closing the valve and pushing the push rod back down. Is that just because the lifter isn't pumped up with oil, or could that mean the lifter is bad?

Kinda sounds like what my old truck sounded like when I was low on oil, turned out to be the tappets. Stupid question but have you checked your oil?

Sounds like a rod bearing to me, listen to the speed of the noise, it sounds to be the same speed of the crank shaft. Short out the cylinders by either unplugging coils or injectors one at a time. When the noise goes away, you've found which cylinder is the culprit. Then you can pull the oil pan and the rod cap and you'll probably find a spun bearing...just my opinion...

I don't think it is a rod or piston pin bearing, it is too crisp. It would be duller if it were in the bottom end. I know it sounds like it is at crankshaft speed, but I still think it is in the valve train. Maybe two lifters. Or maybe that nut you lost is stuck in the top of a piston!

You could always pull the valve covers and run the truck to make sure oil is pumping up. I did it when I heard a ticking too. You just have to ziptie the coils to hold them up.

nothing works better than unpluging those wires if the noise dosent stop on any its a lifter ...ive never heard a rod that high pitched but i have heard a bent valve sound that way works easy enugh bent valve will make the spring be pressed a lil and create excess play in a lifter/rocker
