Default K&N or Amsoil- Which air filter flows more

I have a K&N 4" X 9" cone that is kind of damaged so I'm going to replace it. Would the AMS oil air filter (same size) flow better?

The AMSOIL guy told me his filter will definitely clean the air more and not have any oil to add to the air.

What is the story, any difference going to the AMSOIL filter, except about $15 more than the K&N?

Can't say which one flows better, but not having to deal with the oil was enough for me. I have an Amsoil filter in the stock airbox. I would guess the airflow difference is negligible.

Why dont you put them on a flowbench?

or just find a pressure sensor and measure the pressure before and after the filter..

When people say they want something that flows more, all they really want is less PRESSURE DROP.

Is the Amsoil filter reuseable?

Sort of. Depends on how dirty you get it.
1.) You can gently clean it from the outside with a vacuum cleaner taking care not to rub too hard or use too much vacuum or you may damage the filter material.
2.) You can clean from the inside with shop air by blowing at a 45* angle using low pressure (15 to 20 psi). Again be careful not to rub the pleats with the air nozzle as this may damage the filter media. Too high air pressure will damage the filter material.

The filter does seem to remove more dirt from the air than the K&N but seems less able to shed water than the oiled and filter socked K&N under the truck in an STS application. I have managed to soak my MAF in the car wash using either filter and have had the same problem once with the Amsoil filter driving in heavy rain but otherwise no problem from the wet with either filter.

like what truckmann said, i think the difference in flow wont matter, but if it is in the stock airbox and sheltered from the weather, i think its worth a try.

I just ordered an Amsoil replacement filter for my Volant the other day, hopefully it will be here before the weekend. After 5 years of servicing my K&N filter, and another 2 with the Volant, I wanted to try something that didn't require any oil and "recharging". Amsoil guarantees the filter for 4 years or 100K, and, of course, according to their website it outflows the oiled filters (but I never go by a manufacturers claims or "independent" tests). I figured I'd give it a shot...from what I've read, Amsoil's fluids and oil filters are top notch, so hopefully the air filter will be also.

Mine is right behind the headlights and catches it fair share for trash and probably some water when it is raining and I'm on the highway. Any difference in this environment as opposed to the factory air box?

I bought one as well. The end of the cone is folded in on itself yielding more filter surface area. I will put money on their claims based on this. I am done with the oiled filters as well.
