Mine just arrove last night...I had measured the Volant filter and checked Amsoil's chart for a filter of the same size. The one I came up with looks to be a K&N direct replacement (for one of their FIPK's I guess). It isn't folded over like yours, but still looks to be a quality piece. Pretty much looks just like the K&N or Volant filter, only without the oily residue lol. The end of it (smaller part of the cone) is metal like my old K&N, whereas the Volant is rubber.

I had made a reference in another thread in the general section...

I hope to have a few spare minutes to do the swap and take some pics this weekend...if I remember to charge and bring my digital camera with me for once lol.

Swapped in the Amsoil filter this weekend, and so far so good. The truck actually feels better, but that probably has something to do with the fact that the Volant filter was impacted with crud. The Amsoil filter is 1/2" wider at the tip of the cone, so it just touches the lid of the Volant...the Volant filter used to just barely clear it.

I'm looking forward to not having to go through the cleaning and oiling process anymore, that's for sure Anyway, here's some pics...

The original Volant filter installed...man that thing's dirty!!

Some side by side comparo's...

The material in the amsoil filter is a synthetic fiber which is suposed to filter smaller particles out of the air while still flowing good. The cotton gauze filters, such as K&N flow really good, until they are oiled. With out oil on the cotton gauze filter it cannot filter out small particles.

I just put my Amsoil filter on today so I haven't driven the truck yet but I was sick of cleaning my K&N

I'm curious to know also...there wasn't a whole lot of info on either so I just sorta took a chance and chose Amsoil. I believe that the few guys who have installed the whole AEM dry CAI's have been happy with em, there was a thread or two about em a while back. I wonder if the AEM and Amsoil use the same material??

If you want a bigger K&N filter that flows better, get the part number that's in my sig. It's for the Duramax trucks, but will slip straight onto the MAF.

Yes, I'm a rice burner with the stickers, but whatever...that should give you an idea about the size of the filter.

I had it running like this for a while, as well. It sounded absolutely badass, because you could hear about %80 of the engine noise that came from through the filter due to it being located below the engine bay. The bad thing about running it like this was that it made the tires rub on the wheel well, so I took off the elbow.
