Default Knock sensor

um, how many knock sensors do we have in our motors? What would happen if you threw a resitor of (x) value in it to desensitize it? Now that makes sense right?

I think some people got a few extra hidden around there truck to show false knock all the time.

Jody, You said you modified your knock sensord some. Wrapped them in teflon thread wrap or something? You said it didn't make a difference.

How about this: Rremove the knock sensors then stuff the tubes with some high heat insulation. I think that should muffle the sound some, but I don't know if it will help at the specific frequency the sensor listens to.

Any word on the KO box yet?

what frequency does it look for? anyone have a pic of what the sensor looks like/where it installs on the engine. How exactly does the knock out box work.

The knock sensors listen to your motor for certain sounds that originate from ping or detonation. The KO box splices in between the sensors and reduces the amount of knock the PCM hears from the sensors.

Look for pictures of an LS6 intake install or a head swap. The sensors are in the direct middle of the motor, directly under the intake manifold. They screw into the valley cover and "listen" for knock.

you can solder in your own resistors for about $2

i have mine desensatized 30% and it made a HUGE diference for me, took me from very inconsistat high 14's-16's all the way down to consistant mid 13's. i believe the KO box goes with 30% also. i know it is a bit risky with a blower but what are you supose to do? none of that other stuff seems to work.

they do still work even at 30%, if i hear any knock and then i check the log it will show full 8deg of KR, so i think it will still pull timing even before i can hear any knock.

they are located on the top of the block under the intake manifold...two 2.5-3 inch black round things with wires to them, very easy to see with manifold off.

Tex I sent Tony the money. I am waiting for him to get the weatherpack connectors and put her together for me. I tried teflon tape around the ends but it didn't help any. I went with the knockout box because it will not throw any codes. I remember parish8 having trouble with throwing codes form just installing the resisters. If the ko box doesn't work I will try the insulation thing. Hate having to take that damn manifold off again. I can do it in 30 minutes but it is still a pain since I am only 5'8".

I tried insulating mine, made a piece of hard plastic thread into the KSs location then threaded the KSs in. The PCM picked something was wrong and went into limp.
