Default knock sensor???

just curious if these motors have an upgradeable knock sensor. when i had my 96 LT1/impala ss, we could upgrade the knock sensor in the PCM to one for an LT4 and it knocked off about .2 to .4 in the 1/4. anything like that here?

There is no Knock Sensor that I know off, however there is something called the 'Knock Box' that some LS1'ers have found power by 'dumbing' down the sensors.

I think Big Tex gained some power on an otherwise stock motor with it..?.

I have a knock box on my truck and it's been on there a year. Used to get -8 retard and now I get full timing all the time. Contact TOny aka nineball on this forum. He will hook you up. Its about 70 bucks if I remember and it hooks up in the factory harness with factory style plugs. Real nice piece.

i wired in a 10k ohm resistor in each wire, it did the job. i didn't see any more false knock but it still saw real knock.

as far as i know only the 99's have a false knock problem, if you have real knock then a "knock box" may break your motor.

I tried that but I always got a knock sensor code after about 10 miles. With Tonys setup I have had no trouble at all.

the most important thing here is to find out if the knock is real or false, you do not want to be trying to ignor real knock.

IF you determin it is false then you can decide what to do about it, the 10cent resistor trick worked great for me, i never saw a code and it seemed to take just enuff sensativity away that i didn't see false knock but still was able to see real knock. you can do the KO box too, i have only heard good things about it.

MAKE SURE IT IS FALSE KNOCK BEFORE YOU TRY EITHER ROUTE!!
