On mine I'm just going to hone it order a new replacement piston, rings, and bearing and mill the heads put it back together remove that dod and vvt crap, might also get the heads ported and cam since its already out and apart. Now I may be missing something, but LS1's with aluminum blocks don't have enough meat in the sleeve to to .030 over. Their oversized pistons are for power honing .005-.010 range.

So you're saying that on the Gen 4 aluminum blocks you can bore .030 over? Cuz that would be cool... Aluminum block 408 stroker... Thats what i want...

They sell aluminum 408s so I know it can be done. And I'm pretty sure they use the stock sleeves. Iv talked to a few guys over on tech and they said if the cylinder is not too bad just clean it up to an even 4inchs. But if I can get my hands on a used 4 inch crank then I wanted to take it 30 over for a 408. Or .010 over for a 402? 404? That would leave me room to rebuild it again one day.

you can build a 408 stroker out of it. you can build a 418+ out of a 6.2 just saying.

I wouldn't worry about lowering the compression unless you're wanting to build it for a lot of boost. A 10.5:1 motor with about 7-8psi is great on the street, extremely responsive. Don't drop your compression for nitrous either, shoot for the 11:1 area

To be honest, a .020 mill doesn't look like it's going to clean that head up either. What came apart? I personally wouldn't run that motor until it's torn down and had new bearings since there was obviously some metal through it (by the looks of the reluctor-that's not wear) LS7 lifters will be fine for that build. Sounds like you mainly need to decide if you're going to keep it stock stroke or not, and what you're going to build it for. Nitrous, N/A, Turbo, roots blower, etc... All will require different approaches to the build.

I'm aware of that. I just didn't know if the sleves were thick enough because the LS1's are not.

it "should be" but you know how that goes when you have a defected block IF thats the case.

#7 piston cracked and it was a stock motor in a stock truck no tune or
anything.
