Default Last d*mn question from me about gears and tires!

If I get good gripping tires (w?17in rims) and an Eaton w/3.90s or 4.10s, would that give me a noticible increase over my stock limited-slip 3.42s?

I figure the weight of bigger chrome rims will hurt my performance, mainly off the line. I would think if I get better gripping tires (like the toyo proxes st) and a higher gear ratio, it would help me out with my looks and performance. Right?

Hey dude I have the Eaton 4.10 and just got some new 255/70/16 today. They are cheap brand tires, but the traction and temperature are A rated. I was going to town tonight and pulled up beside a 01 or 02 Mustang GT with the manual. He has exhaust but that is probably all and he and his passenger were pretty heavy, so it looked like a good race. They wanted to go so when it turned green I stepped on it and to my surprise it hooked up and at about 20 mph or so I started pulling ahead and then we stopped at 40 he was at my back bumper. I think it would have been pretty close in a 1/4 mile race. Anyway sorry to get off track, but yeah good tires are very important especially with a lower gear ratio.

99, You're gaining 20% with the 4.10's minus whatever tire hieght over 30 in.? ( 33 in.=10%)are your presant wheels aluminum or steel? I know you will notice a performance increase the first time you nail it. Jim

My tires are cast aluminum. I think. They're stock rims but, they aren't chrome. They look silver.
