Please sit down before I say this....Ok, are you sitting?...Good.
My Dad's '99 2500HD has 170,000 miles on the STOCK pads. We looked at them not too long ago and they still are pretty thick but the rotors have a BIG gouge where the pads wear. It looks like the pads are harder than the rotors. There is no way the rotors will be able to be turned when the pads are eventually replaced so that bill could be exspensive but, 170,000 miles is ALOT.
Oh and they still stop like crazy. Hydra-boost

Dude, my lifted, WhippleCharged Z71 has 80k, and the pads look almost new. Front and back. Rotors are perfect. I'm shooting for that 170+k mark.
My wife's Honda Civic hits 20k and her rotors have enough grooves to write a song.

The pads last, but the rotors don't at least mine didn't. My rear rotors had big rusts indents in them around in 1" in size, I had a little vibration when the brakes were on. So I took it in for warranty at 41000KM, usually they will only take brakes under warranty up to 30000KM, so they put front rotors on it only, they said the rear pads were worn out so they can't put it the rears under warranty. So I put rear rotors and pads on. GM rotors were $450 CDN each and thats at 10% above cost, I went with Ac Delco rotors for $150. The pads are ceramic from the factory, my front pads look like new still. The rear pads still had more then a 1/4 " left.

Hitman, glad you asked that question because i was wondering the same thing. i have about 54K on my '99. it still stops fine especially for a 5500lb truck (ext cab and 4x4). i tow alot, but my pads still have some grip. my next project was to replace my front and rear rotors and pads, but i guess i don't need to from what i have been hearing from this thread. makes me happy to hear that someone had 170K on stockers, especially with the price of brakes these days. i noticed some rust spots on my rear rotors too. my commute to work is less than 2 miles so i am not too worried about replacing my brakes anytime soon

with 80K all i have is slight vibration while stopping. however, under load, when i tow, no vibration. I have said it before and i will say it again, i need to pull the wheels and do a nice thorough inspection then report back here with pics. well, i am off this weekend and it is cool outside. so maybe this weekend will be the one.
