Question lifter tool question?

ok, so ive searched and read alot of threads. 1st question is does anyone still make the lifter tool, cause i cant find one. 2nd is ive read you can use a wooden dowl or metal rod, but ive read use 1/4, 5/16, and 3/8, so which one do i need, and does it really work cause a couple threads says it doesn't. 3rd I've read alot of people use pen magnets, if i go this route do they have to be a certain size or will any run of the mill magnet work? Thanks in advance guys.

EDIT-sorry if in wrong section

5/16 wooden dowels... get 2' rods you will have to cut them down a bit because they his the a/c... i used this method and it worked just fine

-set the pushrods in there bores and watch them come up. make sure all stay up

-i tried the pen magnet on one of the lifters and couldn't get the damn thing out it took some fine wiggling to get it out

Yeah use the 5/16 wooden or metal dowel rods cut to 22". And be sure to spin the cam a few times to pop the lifters up before you stick the rods in (no pun intended)

I used 5/16 metal dowels, 22" long and I also bent one end so it was easier to pull out.
Give the cam a couple good spins first

If you go the magnet method make sure to check 3-5 times to make sure all of the lifters are secure prior to removing the cam.

Be sure to soak or at least put oil on the dowel rods.

I'd use metal. It'd suck if a wooden one broke off inside
