Default Long or short oil filter, what do you use?

1999-2002 Silverado's came with the long pf59 oil filters and in 2003 GM switched to the short pf44(same filter just 1 inch shorter). I use Napa Golds 1522's(pf59) on my 2003 silverado and 2002 Z28. I feel the extra 1 inch the on the longer filter gives you better flow and more filter media. I asked 3 dealers why GM switched and none had any idea . I wonder if it was just to save $$ with a shorter filter or if GM found out the shorter filter was "better" for the engine??? What filters are you guys using on your trucks?

I use pf59. That is what came on my truck though. The pf59 is suppose to have a anti back drain valve. It was suppose to help out the noises on start up.

PF59 is whats in the manual for my '02 and thats what I use on it. I did notice that the local store didn't have any this last time and listed a 44 as the filter for it for some reason.

I just did my 1st oil change on the truck this weekend and I used the 1522 (long) filter, as well.

I still have to cut open the factory 44 to examine it, though.

I have always used the pf59 on my truck. I change from the 44 to the 59 on my camaro. I did not notice a difference in the way the camaro performed at all!
