Okay, this isn't very cool. I was putting another cam in the engine and found this

BlownChevy, Parish, anyone who has spun a balancer can I just pin this and be on my way? I am thinking I can.

Most of the aftermarket cranks I've seen have keys cut in. I'm sure you can do somehing like that. Question is... You plan on doing it with the motor still in the truck? Decision time.

New cam??? Specs please.

I was just going to use the maganacharger crank pinning kit for 'Vettes. It looks like it would help. I can find a pic of it later, but it puts two metal dowels coming from the front of the engine in between the balancer and the crank.

Would that fix the spin? I am thinking so. Or do I need a new crankshaft? I don't think I would since those pins would pretty much stop the crank from spinning in the balancer.
Oh ya, I can pin it with the engine still in.

Cam: nothing huge, but it has good off the shelf specs for sc boost.
Comp Cams: 212/218 .558/.563 115 lsa 115 icl (i'm advancing it 4* to get better dynamic compression) ...should be pretty sweet. Except I can't floor it until I pin this crank

Thats right, I remember your post about wanting that cam.

That pinning kit should be fine. Certainly wouldn't hurt to try. I'd find a new stock pulley to use when you pin it.

Ummm, that cam has 4* ground in, correct? Do you mean you are retarding it 4*? If so, thats what I would suggest you do. If not, then I suggest you retard it 4*. hehehe

How deep are the scores on the crank and inside the pully?

You might be able to sleeve it, and machine the pulley. I've heard of it being done for other types vehicles. Not worth though IMO. Key-ing it is how it should've been done from the factory, and especially in your case since your SC. Good luck and keep us posted!

edit: ATI makes a crank pin kit, and there's one for sale here:

another vote for keying it. how thick are the dowels and how do you plan to drill a STRAIGHT hole thru the crank with it in the truck?
