Looking at getting LS1 Long Block, help?

I would have bought it for that too, if I had the money at the time. I have seen them go around here for the same price.
For an off the shelf cam a 220 or 224 like stated would be good. Or a custom 22x/22x like a 222/22x, 220/22x, etc..
I like ls1 motors, kinda glad you did that instead of going to the 6.0 like 95% of the guys.

I've looked into the 6.0 route, around here you can't get one with less than 150,000 miles without spending $1200-1500.
I don't know if I want to use the stock heads and mill them a hair for a bit of a compression boost. The 243's on my 5.3 are 60cc chambers, but I think that'll be too much compression, either I'll mill the 241's, or swap them out with the 243's and run thicker gaskets to offset the smaller chambers.

60cc head on a ls1 is 11.27 to 1 with stock head gaskets
Dont be scared people run 5.3 heads all the time on ls1 motors.
yours vs stock 61.15cc 5.3 heads is only a small gain in compression
or you could run a thick gasket or -4cc dish pistons to lower compression.
-4cc dish piston would be 10.7 to 1

I guess even running around 11.25 CR... the cam will bleed some off too. I was just concerned running such a high CR if it starts to use oil. This is a DD truck. I think when I get the motor I'll run it up to the machine shop, have them put a fresh crosshatch in it, put the rotating assembly together, and new bearings.

I think this cam with 1.8 rockers is close to what I'm looking for. I'm on the fence about getting a Pat G cam. Not because I don't think he knows his stuff, but just because of how busy he is and the wait time.

The 222/226 is an EPS lobe isn't it?
Nevermind... Found it. I'm thinking about going with beehive springs since this is a DD, or am I better off with getting a set of duals?
