Default loss of traction at 60-70 mph?

yesterday on my way home from work i was moderately accelerating and when i got to about 60-70 mph in 2nd gear i hammered it (HPP3 shift points at +3, +10, 0 and rev limiter = 6100) and i began to to accelerate even more then all of a sudden my rpm's jump from 5000 to 6000 with no feeling of acceleration at all. it almost felt like i lost traction. i do have stock tires that are bald and plus the temp outside was 20*. i can't figure out if the slippage came from the tires or somewhere internally. this has happened a few times. my stereo is usually on loud so i couldn't really determine where the slippage source was. i hope the tires. also, i have zero traction (mostly from 0-20 mph)ever since i programmed my truck with HPP3. too much ***** i guess. fine by me though. should i install limited slip diff for a good cure? it is usually the right tire that slips, i'm sure we all experienced this. is it easy to install posi. should i go with eaton, detroit, .......?

Given the right conditions i guess it could have
been tire spin. But it sounds more to me like the trans was slipping in 2nd gear. From what i've heard,2nd gear seems to be the first to go on these trannies.I hope that's not it.

yea if it as 20* and an asphalt road then you could have been slipping. try it again when the weather warms up. if it still does it then your tranny is slipping.

if all you have are the mods in your sig, i doubt it was tire slippage, you might get a chirp or a silent burn out, you may want to have your trans checked out.
maybe you hit a small patch of water, hahahha

If you hammered it and you felt a noticable slip, i think you would know if it was your tires or tranny.

I've had that happen before....the roads were damp though. Kinda scary when the assend kicks out at 70mph on a 4-2downshift.

I guess it could have been the tires slipping if the pavement was real cold and the tires were shot. Probably just the trans though.

thanks for the input guys. i was just out on some country roads an hour or 2 ago and was hammering my truck into 2nd gear again anywhere b/w 50-60mph. wasn't any slipping this time . tires were alot warmer because i was drive on them alot and plus it was around 40* today. i think my tranny is fine. i hope.

how about the locking differential mod i mentioned earlier in this post. feedback, thanks

I'd be interested in that locking diff. question too... wish our trucks came with it!

hey rob, maybe we can get the same locking differentials and help each other put them in our trucks. my friend has done it before to his jeep, he said it takes a little technical skill. i am clueless once my differential cover comes off.

You hope it's fine. My uncle and I are going to try and find out why my tranny is slipping this weekend. I'm getting around 1000 rpm slippage on the 2-3 shift at decent acceleration and some slippage on 3-OD at WOT. Before I had the Transgo installed when I made a WOT run the 2-3 shift felt way to smooth, almost like feathering a clutch. I should have realized what was going on then. Keep an eye on your tranny.

JSmith unless you tuned your pcm, you shouldn't be able to shift from 3rd gear into 4th unless you are going 255mph. If so you have a damn fast truck .

EDIT: this only pertains to WOT conditions. (forgot that minor detail )
