Default low voltage problem

last night we went to chili's for dinner, came out, started my truck and the battery light started flashing and the voltage was only at about 11 volts but the truck seemed to be running fine. so i drove it home, lights a little dim and the voltage reading low (the battery light stopped flashing until it was at idle again) but fine other than that, got the gf's car and went to choctaw.

this afternoon i went to check it out, started the truck and the voltage shot up to about 15 and stayed there, everything seemed fine so i came back in.

got in the truck to leave around 6:30 and it was doing the same thing it did last night.......

im pretty sure the alternator is working because when i was driving the battery light would stop flashing, it only flashed when i was sitting at idle. it starts fine, doesnt turn over slow or anything like that. i kind of think it might be the battery, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to give me? sorry this is kind of a long read.

Might have a loose brush in the alternator.

i didnt want to go to sleep so i went out to the garage, started my truck (it was still showing low voltage), beat on the alternator and the voltage still didnt come back up. i pulled the alternator and it definitely feels like there is something not right in there, it kind of grinds a little bit and has a little bump in the spin once in a while like the brushes are worn out. i'll take it to get checked out in the morning.

I was gonna say, bad regulator. Works when you spin it enough but not at idle. Glad you got it fixed. Too bad it cost ya 150 bones.
