I have 16X8 rims and 285 wide tires, and the contact patch is really rounded especially on the back. I have to run 20psi in them just to get most of the patch to the ground. Seems like a 8.5 or 9" wide rim would put more rubber on the ground.
Have you tried tires that wide on 7" rims?

I might just have to lower mine as well... i tow alot of heavy tile and hardwood flooring for work, do you think i can bag the rear and install an air pump to to level the back when i carry a load and tow a trailer?

wait a tick.. here is another possiblity, I currently have some boost a springs in the back for extra height, and to carry more weight. is there a way i can lower the rear and still keep my boost a spring for carring tile? ill just crank the torsion bars back down to match. i currently have them cranked all the way up.

bigguy, i think you can do both of the things i did and keep the booster springs if ya want.
the contact patch is something i should think about i guess. the rims are 7" i think. my last truck i had some 275/60's and they hooked better than the stock firestones even with the rim skinier than recomended.
truck rides great, like stock. no idea about pinion angle or anything like that but nothing is breaking yet so it must be ok.
my truck had a wheel hop problem before i lowered it. i always thought it was a weight transfer thing but after talking to a 2500hd guy that is always breaking tierods it got me thinking. i think it is more of a stering geometry thing. with everything all level like the tie rods and cross link it has no where to move to. if the truck is up higher than the tie rods are at a sharper angle and when the tires try and move forward it tries to pinch everything together up front. doesn't really matter what is going on i guess but it launches great when lowered and not good at the stock height.
