The heads will give you the best answer, #317 are aluminum and the 2001+ model years. The #873 is iron and in the 1999-2000 models.
BTW by your pic I THINK it has the "shorter" crank snout but others will be able to verify. Some of the late model year 2000 engines had the shorter crank, all the 1999 models were long.

where on the head is that number stamped do i have to remove the valve cover
