Default Is this an LQ4 or an LQ9??

Ok so I thought I bought an LQ4...here is the original ebay link

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...9998%26fvi%3D1

The auction title says Avanlanche/Escalade, the description says 2005 Silverado.....

The paperwork that came with the engine says Escalade Vin N....

Looks like it's an LQ9, how can I be sure? If it is that would be sweet!!

Oh...the engine pictured in the auction is not the one I received - flexplates are different...

Wouldn't the 6.0L Silverado 2500 engine have been bolted to a 4L80E? Which means it would have a flexplate with 6 bolt holes in it?

Which means that since mine only has 3 bolt holes, it would have come from something with a 4L60E or 4L65E, which means Silverado SS or Escalade, which means LQ9?

Just keep talking to yourself - I'll sit back and listen

Not that I know, but there has to be something external to tell the two apart - the GM employees would get them confused if they didn't.

if you have the engine there take a spark plug out and put it at TDC on that cylinder and take a flash light and look in at the piston and see if its flat top or dished.

the passenger side engine cover resembles that of a SS

BTW I don't think any LQ4 came with the three piece engine cover. But I may be way off on that.

Sounds like an LQ9. Do like Fogle says and pull a plug and get your pinky in there to check the piston.

what about the Denali's? That would be an LQ4 with a 4L65... so there still isn't anyway to know, stick yo finger in it and check it out, it's kinda like checking your ole lady's oil
