If you're staying N/A the LQ9 has a higher compression ratio. In my experience, the LQ4s are cheaper and more plentiful. Usually for the price difference, it's cheaper to get the LQ4, and shave the heads to bring your compression ratio up

If your going with an 05 and up engine get an lq4 if you come accross one, then mill or swap heads for a little bump on compression. Lq9 have stronger rods but it wasn't until 05 when the lq4 got them too. I came accross my Lq9 for $800!

There is a 2003 LQ9 on the SilveradoSS site with a Lingenfelter GT2-3 cam in it for sale for $1300 shipped. Supposedly he is selling it because he's going to a bigger motor. Doesn't sound too bad shipped.
