I am a firm believer in rebalancing. In fact, I am having my OE LS6 assembly rebalanced after the crank cut
That said, I have helped slap motors together that seemed fine. We used a 54x crank, gen4 rods, LQ4 block and forged Wisecos and made 880. Customer never complained about the fact it wasnt balanced and I think that motor is still out there making passes.
I would balance it tho. For the $100, why not?

i just wanted to know what im facing
when i started brain storming i thought this could be done on the cheap a pull out set for around $100-$150 i was seeing pull out pistons an rods few times a week posted all over the place now i cant find a set to save my life for less then $300 plus having it all inspected and balanced cost is jumping up, i should of done this while it was a part at the machine shop
thinking about now selling this fresh short block and just starting from scratch with a lq9 now, i suck this thing has not even been in the truck and looking to upgrade it

OP, sounds like you need an intervention. Just kidding! We're all addicted to the need more power drug. It's a serious problem and we need a fix.
Reading through the thread. The community has provided some great recommendations. Seems you're at a cross-road half-way house so to say.
You're wanting to do it right and don't want to crutch anything. You can use the fresh LQ4 you have sitting and swap out pistons/rods/cam and bolt on the PRC heads. This way you're spending more cash money on something that was already fresh and just waiting to get finished. Or sell off the LQ4 and find a good LQ9 specimen. This is better for more power down the road. It also means starting over and ditching the LQ4 that was already ready to go.
You could go either way and make good power. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

your probably right...
id be "ok" with around 400 rwhp with a nice flat torque line i think its doable with what i have on hand but would love to be around 450 wheel hp since i think thats whats needed to get this truck to run mid 12's n/a and still be a good daily driver
in the group i hang out with i held the quickest truck for a long time 12.8 @ 103 out of all of us until last summer when a friends tune only f150 crew cab eco got a time slip of 12.7 (didnt see that coming) so id like to beat his time thats why im rethinking this this engine but at the same time dont want to dig deep in my pocket right now for the truck when i have my car getting the engine put in hopefully soon
the only reason i even picked up this block was it was compete and cheap after selling parts from it and the machine shop bill im only out around $1,100 so with robbing the heads off my ls6 made it a really budget friendly swap in a truck that already has a 80e in it, was plaing to swap the engine in a week or so but might just put the truck on hold till i figure this all out not wanting to spend $1k on it at this time

@arthursc2 yeah its a 2017 crew cab 2.7 ecoboost with an SSI tune really impressive to give you an idea my son has a 2017 extra cab 2.7 ecoboost un touched and my little stock 4.8/4l80e drags him a truck that SSI tune knocks seconds off there time
every time i tried to do something cheap it never worked out for me, just like this cheap engine swap lol if i had a tig and band saw setup id give making a kit a try it probably suck with my fab skills lol i only have a little lincoln mig and basic skills with it
btw talked to my cousin he tossed out all the wheel bearings
