I have no clue about your answer, I was just thinking how much of a bitch it must be to pass alll that emissions crap. The government should not have control over what motor you wanna put in your car.
I have the inject my political stuff in posts now because they closed the politcal section down.

yeah i would doubt very much they would start checking serial numbers (although i dont live in cali so i dont know) and if they do just tell them you needed a replacement and as long as you dont roll in there with 6.0 stickers slapped everywhere you prolly wont have a problem

maybe I should just stick with the 5.3...ha ha...I just need to be able to have my g/f be able to smog it when I'm deployed is all...how wild CAN you go with a 5.3 in cali and still pass the sniffer....my pops has a TPI vette and that thing passes with a mild cam in it....what about the gen III's? anyone have a cam with some head work and still pass the sniffer? I was talking with my pops and he was sayin just go with a mild comp cam with thier programer, and have one of his budies that owns a machine shop clean up the heads a little bit, and just see what he can do without going TOO wild....ha ha....I just want to be in the LOW 14's reliably...I want to be able to drive the truck about 210 miles every other weekend....THATS why I wanted that LQ9 with the 4L80....bullet proof.....

People are passing with TR224 cams in F-bodies and some a lil wilder but I wouldn't bank on it.
You won't get anywhere with a programer. You need a custom tune. If you're in Norcal it's simple. SoCal will have tuners also but I don't know where they are at.
Low 14s and smogable in a RCSB should be cake. I ran that in an ext.cab 4x4 and the onlything not smogable about my setup was the longtubes and no cats which is an easy fix.
