Lq9, l92, ls3 combo questions.
Alright guys I know these questions have been answered many times but I was hoping for anwers to all my questions in just one thread (my own). So I appologize for the repetativeness. LOL. Anyways here it goes.
I have an 07 classic 4.8 Im swapping out. I bought a 05 escalade lq9 that IM planning on swapping. I also have the possibility of pickin up some new l92 heads and ls3 intake manifold. My questions are these
If I just do that lq9 swap what changes will I have to make?
If I decide to do the heads and intake manifold what all is it gonna take to make this work?
What head studs do I need?
What gasket set do I need?
What throttle body do i need (if the lq9 tb wont work)?
Does the ls3 intake manifold go right on the motor/heads?
Is it even worth while to do this on stock cam?
If I do a cam besides stock lq9 what would be the best/cheapest cam to put in there? ls3?
What else if anything do I need to make this work?
Goals are around 400+whp similar torque and strong power band (not just topend). I want the truck to be fun on the street and adversly be fast at the track LOL. I have a k&n fipk intake, pacesetter longtubes and ory pipe (3in collector) mated to a dmax 3.5 inch stock exhaust. Truck will be tuned on the dyno with hp tuners. Any help will be soooo appreciated. Im doing this on a hella slim budget. I have the motor already and just need to know what its gonna take to make this setup and my goals happen. Thanks sooo much guys. Ill post pics and my results for your viewing pleasure.

L92 heads, L92 intake, 42 lb injectors, G5X3 cam or similar cam, ARP studs, Torque Rush X-Link, LS3 head gaskets. My friend with a SSS put down 423hp/392tq to the tire through a 4L80E with a 3200 convertor.

I'm doing a similar setup, have the same goals and questions.
If you just do a lq9 I'm pretty sure it'll drop in and hook up the same. You'll probably want a beefier transmission. Everyone says not to mess around with a 4l60 and just go with a 4l80 which is a whole other subject.
I know the heads will bolt right up. If you go with a ls3 intake you'll need a f body water pump. You could go with a l92 intake and avoid all that and they perform a little better too.
As for the throttle body you'll have to find one off a ls2,ls3,l92,etc or you could go aftermarket. You'll need that adapter that bigred listed above.
You'll want to ditch the lq9 cam. I'm looking into a cam too and not sure what one. I'll have to look into that one list above. I've been reading you can't go with too aggressive of a cam with the l92/ls3 heads due to valve clearance.

IMO, you gotta give up some at the track for a good running street truck with a n/a engine.
Edit: oops
And, just another opinion, find some used, ported 243s. Run them with a 230s cam at .050 with a good amount of lift. Fact part: it will put down ~450 rwhp. It will outrun the l92/lq9 you're talking about.

alright guys this seals the deal for me. After a few suggestions and a lil more research I dont think these heads are for me. Im lookin for simpler setup and more of a mid range monster vs topend. I had topend setup with my 4.8 and procharger and dont wanna waste the time duplicating the setup that will actually make less power LOL. Thanks for your time guys.
Also one more question what about swapping my 317 heads for some 799 heads? Any improvent there? Thanks again for your help.
Im thinkin the lq9 with a tr220 cam will be just what the dr ordered. May not quite hit 400whp but itll still be alot of fun.

Alright got a few updates.
Probuilt automatics tranny rebuild kit is here for the fubarred 4l60
Lq9 out of 05 escalade arrived.
Ecu is off getting a good base map in it before I drive 250 miles for HP dyno tune.
Texas speed 220/220 112lsa cam combo is here with pushrods and springs.
Duramax 3.5 exhaust (magnaflow muffler) is going on this weekend.
The only other thing Im still lookign at getting is a tbss stall. If anyone has one or knows where to get one please let me know.
Hoping to have truck up and going in the next two weeks so be on the lookout for dyno results and my thoughts on how it feels. Im very excited.

with the ls3 top end on an lq9 if you do the car manifold you have to cut your altenator bracket, space out and use a ls1 water pump, pulley relocation kit, just to get a dbw tb to fit because it sits lower than a truck one and will hit all of those parts, trust me, it sucks haha. dirty dingo racing has all the stuff for it tho for about 120$ minus the water pump, look up skeets lq9 n/a set up with stock bottom end he put down around 480 whp with a fast 102 though

I have a lq4 with comp cam l92 heads and l92 truck intake, and all the basic bolt ons and a 3000 converter. not sure of power level but 12.09 was my fastest na et so far daily driven. the l92s can be had cheaper that cathedrals and in stock form a better flowing head, 400whp is easily obtainable and driver friendly witht that type set up
