Default LS1 5.7 vs LQ9 6.0

Recently i've been working on a truck for one of the forum guys and really wondering how the two compare side by side. Factory power ratings on these engine really varies online...so these are the most consistent numbers I ran across.

LS1 345hp 365 torque
LQ9 345hp 380 torque

When my LS1 Avalanche was tuned EFI live estimated the power at the flywheel was 380, I have no idea of the actual number since the engine or truck has never been on a dyno.

The trucks..

2004 Avalanche 4x2 3.73, LS1, 10.24:1 compression ratio, LS6 cam, Shorty headers , Blackbear tune, modified factory air box, 2.5" true duals with H pipe. Weight- 5410 lbs

2006 Silverado SS 4x2 4.10, LQ9, 11.1:1 compression ratio, 228R cam 114 LSA, Long tubes, hi flow cats, 3" true dual exhaust, K&N CAI, Wheatly Tune. Weight- 5013 lbs

Its hard to decide on the superior engine with the gear ratio and weight differences of the two trucks, if my truck had the 4.10 ratio it really feels like they two truck would almost pull the same. The one very obvious difference is the low end, I read that the LS6 cam is a horrible choice for a full size SUV and that is absolutely correct 110% the low end is so lacking in torque that it totally trumps the increased top end.

So what do you guys think?

If any of you guys are wondering about a LS6 cam in a full size SUV here is a video of the off the line performance, peak power does not happen till about 4500 rpms.

I don't think the SS does, peels the tires just fine with the stock converter. The Av fo sure does not need a converter since its sportn a 5.3 again.

I'll buy that ls6 cam from ya! lol

Looks like some fun setups either way. In the end, I think the SS will be the victor

different set ups for sure. shorty heads vs LT's is a hp/tq difference in favor of the LT's. the cam's are different, fast ramp vs fair ramp (light to light) which goes to after market. ls6 vs truck intake, also goes to the trunk intake but hp numbers go to the ls6 for higher rpm range.

Mod the same and my money is on the 346 ci. but in this case, street goes to the SS and the track will show the Av will edge the SS.

A converter would greatly make both run better. I can remember the days of the horrible rpm drop at shifts.
