You should get at least a converter.

If you are ballin on a budget you can get an FTI street brawler converter for a 4l60e from $329-$349 depending on what stall rpm you want. Another budget converter is the CircleD 278mm as we all know. What trans do you currently have in the avalanche?

The Avalanche is still rolling on the factory 4L60E with 202K, never been rebuilt

Last year I did run a Circle D converter for about a month before taking it out, dont remember the stall 2800? but I thought it was too much for a full size SUV daily driver. Even with the stall the weight of the truck still would not let me do a burnout....the front wheels would slide locked up before the rear broke loose lol

The weight difference really does not sould like much but I could really feel the difference in the way the truck drove, also the front end was much higher and had a serious California lean going on.

I think the LQ9 is a stronger engine. No replacement for displacement. It comes with a better cast factory head, but a very similar cam, and more restrictive intake for top end power. There's a reason F body guys swap to the 6.0.

From the factory all LQ9 and 01 up LS1 use the same 1721 camshaft.

I thought so but didnt want to say that and then have to put my foot in my mouth.

I think the best apples to apples comparison of a 6.0 vs a 5.7 (or at least as close as youre gonna get) is the earlier LS6 vs the LS2. The LS2 uses the same cam as the 385 HP LS6 with the same heads, and im sure a very comparable intake.

The cam is obviously gonna act "bigger" in the smaller cube LS6, but peak torque of 385 comes in at 4800 RPM in that engine while the peak of 400 comes in a 4400 in the LS2.

The added displacement makes more peak power, but the biggest difference is that it makes that power while giving you a much more beefy torque curve. In a heavy truck (especially with no stall) that will really be felt.

I'd be curious to see how a TBSS would perform with the 405 HP LS6 in it just for *****... See how much of a difference it actually makes.

Before I did my LQ4 swap, I found a nice LS1 and posted the same question on this site. I think in a bigger vehicle, the extra torque along with the potential to make more torque with with basic power modifications, is what is needed. Again, this is mostly preference from the driver but from my daily driver perspective, I want the power and torque when I want it.
