Default LS1 manifold vs LS6 manifold....here's another thought

After thinking about this for awhile I'm leaning towards thinking the LS1 manifold should be the truck modders "manifold of choice" for swapping....here's why:

* Cheap: you can pick these up for $20 on e-bay....nobody want's 'em !

* Plentiful:....how many f-body's do YOU know that still have one on...

* Lower flowing than the LS6: Here the big one.....with a slightly smaller plenum and narrower runners than the LS6 this manifold "should" be able to produce more usable torque lower in the RPM range than the LS6 manifold, and I've NEVER seen one of us complaining that we had TOO MUCH low-rpm torque to get our monsters moving. I'd bet there are only a hand full of us on this board that have big enough cams and are willing to spin our motors high enough to get to the point where the top-end flow of the LS6 manifold will outshine the LS1...and it's a guarantee that the LS1 will outflow the truck manifold any way you look at it

I'm not in ANY WAY saying that the LS6 is a BAD manifold.....I'm just thinking that for the 90% of us on here that don't hit 6700rpms on a regular basis the LS1 manifold will be OK.....

It would be good for smaller cubed motors.

I have too much tq I cant get traction in 4hi.

Now you have heard someone complain about having too much tq

How hard would this swap be? I've got about $30 left in my paypal account that I need to spend and if this is a DIY(low mechanical skills) swap I might pick one up.

Same mods as were talked about in Kanos LS6 swap thread. Basically the same manifold exterior wise.

Well $30 wont cut it but its not too expensive at all. I put a LS1 intake on in place of the truck but I am running a LS1. I noticed some gains especially up top. I will be putting on the LS6 when I get around to it and it will be a pretty easy swap!

what yelo posted is what litreddevil, slowprocess and i have been discussing for the past few months. i want to make the swap but i dont' have the time right now to do it.

back to what yelo said. i agree 100 percent about the tq down low. i call it putting a band aid on the traction problem. by using a less torqie intake. i'd give up a little low end tq to help hook better off the line which should yield quicker et's. (if you consistently spin). plus the added flow in the mid to upper rpm range would most certainly help push our bricks to quicker et's. these are my thoughts.

AMEN !!!

I'm thinking this may be the "best of both worlds" mod we've all been looking for in terms of improved air-flow: Cheap AND Effective !!

How are you guys cuting the alt/pulley bracket? I am thinking hacksaw, but it looks kindof close.
