Default Ls1 Overhaul Components

Hi All,

It has been a while since I have "been in the game" so to speak since I sold my truck in favor of a travel trailer. However, I am now trying to help my dad find overhaul parts for his Ls1 swapped 2000 GMC Sierra. We did the swap some time ago with the engine initially having around 100k miles on it when we got it. It uses a good amount of oil between changes, especially when he tows his boat, and overall I think its just tired. I thought it would be relatively easy to find overhaul parts for it but I am finding a lot of stuff to be out of stock or not finding anything at all.....

Back when I was in the game Ls2 timing chang, Ls6 oil pump and Ls7 lifters/trays were the way to go along with a GM gasket set. Are those still the preferred "budget" components to rebuild with or is there better now days? Its seems the GM stuff is mostly out of stock and aftermarket stuff is all thats available in my searching. Planning to probably use Hastings for the rings as my dad has had great luck with them over the years.

Any input would be appreciated! TIA

@RPMSpeed Tech runs the ws6project.com, he can set you up with everything you need. He has reasonably priced overhaul kits and all the components needed individually.

My first order of business would be to pull the motor out and check the cylinder roundness. The LS1/6 can only go .005 or .01 overbore, and if she is burning because of an oval'd hole, a re-ring might not be the best solution for a long lasting repair

the oil its eating might have something to do with the PCV system depending on what year the engine is, swapping to the ls6 style helps and newer valve covers if it has the older style on it now, when you open it up if the intake has a lot of oil you should look into updating it

I bought my Cometic headgaskets through the WS6store and I saved about $40 compared to other vendors

I am thinking you may be right. Seems like I remember the Ls6 PCV system being an "upgrade". There is no blue smoke so if it is burning it it is only doing it a little at a time. But we are talking not on the dipstick at 3k miles and when he pulled a small U-haul trailer up here to Michigan from Oklahoma (about 1k miles each way) it used 1-2 quarts each way.....

This is a 2000 Ls1 so what would I need parts wise to update to Ls6 system?

Thanks!
