LS1 Swap in my 02 Z-71
A pic of the truck:
I decided to put a different motor in my truck about six months ago. The stock 5.3L was doing just fine but I was bored and wanted more. I found a low millage LS1 short block on a local forum that I couldn't pass up so, I picked it up cheep and went from there.
Here's what I did to the motor:
* Checked all the clearances and everything was real nice and tight.
* Put a LS2 GTO cam in it (same specs as z06)
* Put LS2 front cover on it
* Put LS2 cam sprocket and chain
* LS6 springs
* I had my stock 241's ported (not a full port) bolted on with ARP's
* Put a truck pan, pick up tube, and windage tray
* Tuned by ozws6 (HP Tuners)
here is some pics of the pull and install:

Pics of the new motor:
Install pics:
There wasn't anyone around to take pics this time until it was almost too late.
Y-pipe build and install pics:
It is out on the road and tuned. It runs real strong but nothing to brag about. I will get some pics and video up asap.

Looks good but why are you reusing the truck manifold again. yeah they have longer runners for a little low end torque but I'd think the ls1/ls6 would still be a decent improvement.

Nice write up. I'm considering the same swap when the time comes for a new motor. Once you get the tune dialed in, let us know more about how you like it and include any dyno/track #s.

well there's a million questions that could be asked. Like why did you use a Z06 cam? I would have got a more radical used cam or one of those regrinds off ebay. What's the reason for cats? Headers? or no? With the right parts a 5.7l can easily be made something to brag about.

why i went with a z06 cam? im not above answering questions. i use my truck every day. I dont have my transmission rebuilt yet. also i came across an amazing deal on it. these are just a few reasons why. i wasnt insulting the guy by any means. i just wondered what his reasoning was. it seemed like more hassle to me but i thought maybe he had a specific reason why he didnt want to go with new stuff.
