Re: LS1 vs. 6.0L HO
just get ya a good ole 6.0 motor and some arp bolts and spray the hell out of it. Stupidfast on is making 500 at the rear wheels and like 550torque with a completely stock bottom end, a cam and boost. he's planning to spray it also....so it will make 550 rwhp easy...and i'm bettin it holds it(for a while anyways)

Do you think you are going to go with an LS1 long block or 6.0 long block?
You can sell your heads to an LS1 guy on this site as they bump compression and flow good.
Hey I try to help...Ambiguous answers are useless.

Re: LS1 vs. 6.0L HO
I'm thinking 6.0 long block since they're much cheaper, or at least they seem to be. It's not unusual to see LS1's go for $3000 on Ebay. I'll probably just snap up whichever one I come across that seems to be a good price.
I know the newer 6.0's (01+?) have aluminum heads, so I might rather get one of those. How about LS1's? Was there a certain year where the castings changed or was improved? I seem to remember something about the block changing slightly in 2000.

Either one would be a huge step up over the 4.8 now, it's just too small for a 4x4 truck.
99-00 6.0 have iron heads and a longer crank that only works with the 4L80E...basically good for the block only. '01+ have aluminum heads and the shorter crank but so do come with an adapter plate from what I remember to use with the 4L80E.
LS1's went from perimeter valve covers to centerbolt in '00 I believe. Either way the heads are the same as are the motors. The early 97-98 C5 LS1 had bad oil pumps also from what I was told. I think also after late '01 all LS1 motors are the LS6 block.

Apparently it is stronger somehow...either in webbing, deck (closed, semi, etc), skirting, material itself. I am not totally sure, but it is the best for all out power of a production block.

Hit Man, what about the intake? Is the intake the same for eth 4.8 and 6.0 or is there going to be a little restriction if you put a 4.8 intake on the 6.0? Will it mate with the 6.0 heads ok?

Re: LS1 vs. 6.0L HO
The intakes are all the same, just in '02 (I think) is when GM did away with EGR so the '02 and up intakes don't have the EGR provision.
So if you took a '99 4.8 w/ EGR and installed a 6.0 longblock without EGR, just reinstall that passanger exhaust manifold with EGR and use your '99 4.8 intake to keep everything visually the same.
