The duration of the cam is unaffected, but the valve duration is increased.

Right on, valve duration is affected by rocker arm ratio, just like valve lift.

Increasing(or decreasing) rocker arm ratio by 0.1:1 will increase or decrease the duration by 2 degrees.

example:

GM Hotcam(LT4)
0.525"/0.525" 218/228 duration 112 LSA with 1.6:1 rocker arms
0.500"/0.500" 216/226 duration 112 LSA with 1.5:1 rocker arms

so if i take my lift and divide it by 1.7 and multiply by 1.8 that will give me my new lift and then just add 2 to the duration. is this correct?

As long as 1.7:1 is the original ratio of the rockers, then yes.

sweet so has anybody use the ls7 springs on anything will they fit i read in hot i think that they were good to some pretty high lift in the mid .600's i think but they had to replace the retainers i think it was so the spring sat a little higher and reduce coil bind other than that they were goods stuff just need to know if they will fit our heads.then for like 250 you could have a good spring and rocker upgrade.

It *shouldn't*, but as with any cam, head, or rocker arm change you will have to check your own combination before final assembly.
