It depends on which of the LSX376 engines you’re looking at as to what they are rated for and what they can handle. I’m sure either of them can truly handle quite a bit more than what they are rated at, but for a comfortable baseline, I’m sure they had to start somewhere and with a number they were comfortable with only a 87 octane requirement.

The LSX376-B8 (19260831) adds 9.0:1 forged pistons to an otherwise stock rotating assembly in a LSX iron block with stock LS3 heads and camshaft, and is designed for mild-boost applications up to about 8lbs.

The LSX376-B15 (19299306) is equipped with 9.0:1 forged pistons, forged rods and 8-bolt LSA style forged steel crankshaft in a LSX iron block with LSX 6-bolt LS3 style heads and a little more aggressive camshaft, and is designed for boost applications up to around 15lbs.

Those engines love boost depending on setup.
