Mad wheel hop with eaton
#11
whatever you do dont blow up your rear end like I did before I put in my eaton posi..... I had wheel hop before and after the eaton went in, I was also running edelbrock performer ias shocks after the eaton.
My main problem I'm thinking was the removal of the helper springs.

I got that same wheel hop problem after I got my 4.10s and Eaton installed. This was with the stock tires. After I got my 2/4 drop and 20s (GY GTII tires) that problem went away...??

Add a set of 3/4 ton stock helper springs to the bottom of the leaf-pack (my stock helpers are 3/4" thick and almost the full length of the lower spring !!!), that ought to cure your wheel-hop !! (it sure helps mine )...it will also eliminate your suspension movement and remove anything resembling comfort that your 1/2 ton suspension might offer too....but such are the necessities in the quest for perfectly parallel black stripes !!
BTW...in case anyone missed it...that WAS sarcasm !!!

I had a lot of wheel hop problems, and still get them at the track every now and again, so I got the Caltracs, but since my susepnsion drop with the rearched Leafs by Hotchkis, and my IAS shocks, I don't get anymore wheel hop on the street. I get two real nice 5 foot strips, then the vehicle grabs and goes.
Now Hotchkis says that the new leafs are supposed to help reduce wheel hop also, by being stiffer than stock, with more force required to make the leafs snap back and forth.

01_silverado, I'm a broke student too lol. I noticed difference coming off the line and driving around in the lower gears around town and a big hook up difference with the Eaton. My gears came out to around 3.90's because of my smaller tire size, so that is why I did not go with 3.90's or 4.10's.
The thing that really gets me is it USED TO NOT DO IT BEFORE, even with the locker and the gears, stock or non stock tires. Used to just spin and spin, then all of sudden this week messing around I noticed that it had gone wheel hop crazy. Just wish I could figure out why, if the shocks suddenly went bad or the locker screwed up etc.

Just so everyone knows, the eatons are great but not invensible. I just broke the spider gears in my eaton, that is after my 4th set of broken 4:10 gears. I would suggest some traction bars to, you don't want to be one wheeling an eaton too long or you will wind up like me.
