Cool Mail order tune vs self tuning.

I posted earlier about what's next for my truck and a tune is the obvious next step, but which way to go.
A mail order tune from PCMS for less is a very good price and Nelson's etc
about the same cost as the HP Tuners deal.
How steep is the learning curve for self tuning? Are guys willing to share tables with others[me] so I can get a baseline on what to do.
What about going back to stock with a self tune, do I get to store my
origional setup in case I screw up.
I love to tinker and am reasonably literate which computers and on the things that I would change myself, but I want to be sure I can bail out and get back to stock if I screw up.
I have HTPP installed now, will I be able to veiw the changes it's made to stock, if I put it back to stock after viewing the HTPP setup and comparing
the two.
Basically, can a guy start from scratch and figure it out without being a skilled tech.

The advantage of self tuning is being able to run diagnostic scans from your PCM and making changes and then finding out what impact the change has on your performance. The optimal tuning method is to make a 20 minute run with the scan tool (using a laptop). This will give you an accurate picture of not only the different cells, but also Long Term Fuel Trims, O2, levels, etc. When you make changes and take another scan log, the comparisons become obvious. LS1 Tech has sections available to discuss your results and several knowledgeable people who readily help. The advantage of a PCM for Less or Nelson tune is you get about 90% of max results in a "plug and play" mode.

If i were in your shoes
I would buy Hptuners
the scan tool is what you need along with there software
If you like to tinker I would suggest you own the software
you can make as many changes to your tune to suit you
not a one time flash from a company via mail order
There are plenty of resources online HP's forum is very helpfull
I'd be willing to help you out

ttt. Thanx for the replies again, I think I'll try HPTuners.
What about going back to stock if i screw up. Is that like htpp, just re-flash with a saved stock file.
