Yeah, you're pretty much out of your mind for thinking that. :p

Seriously, I really don't see you getting that kind of milage unless you drop a TON of weight.

If the milage is killing ya and you don't need the extra towing capacity maybe just trade it in on a newer 1500series. If you don't go heavy on the mods you can probably custom tune it to get 17mpg in a 4x4 and better in a 2wd AND still be faster than your HD.

my brothers 99 Z71 gets 20 on the highway. Like ya said a lot less weight. Do the SS 's get decent? Will an STS turbo realy get me 2 to 4 mpg like they claim?

Driving it easy which doesn't happen very often for me I can get between 13 and 14 mpg out of my SS. My cousin has an 04 2500 HD bone stock and he is getting 12.5 out of his. Maybe an aftermarket exhaust and a tonneau cover would help a little?

I've been thinking of that. THX Is it true they make 1500 HD with the 6.0? If so, wonder how mileage would be?

Not to sure about the 6.0 in a 1500 HD? But you might want to try opening up your exhaust some, my buddy just installed a Flowmaster 40 series on his truck and swears up and down that he gained 2-3 mpg.......... not to sure about that but you never know. I would have to agree with F8L Z71 about getting a half ton if you don't really need that heavy 2500 HD.

I doubt the exhaust will help much.

I drove my buddies 02' 2500HD fro a week and took a trip[ down to the Bay in it and going easy with only a few WOT hits to pass some cars I got a best of 11.5mpg... This is by starting with a full tank, driving to my destination and refilling. Then taking the amount of miles driven and dividing it by the # of gallons used to refill the truck. Note: The computer was set for the exact tire height on the truck the week before so tire hieght did not alter the readings.

You might wanna make sure your brothers truck has the speedo correct also. 20mph seems kinda high to me. I couldn't get anything better than 17mph when mine was brand new and it only got worse after that.

Not much better. I usually average 11-12, sometimes less. Best thing to do is just suck it up and live with it. Spending thousands of dollars on exhaust, bed covers, turbo, electric fans isn't going to accomplish much besides making your wallet empty and you will still have a gas hog truck. Do the math.
