Default Mobil 1 (5w30) oil info.

Well I've officially got 15k on my truck. At 10k I switched from Castrol (dino) 5w30 to Mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic. Just wanted to report I experienced absolutely no oil consumption at all. I'm a fan of Mobil 1 0w30 but have never run that weight oil in a V8 engine (only a V6 and smaller). My idea was to see if while on the Mobil 5w30 I noticed any oil consumption/leaks as a result of switching from petroleum based oil to full synth. Since all is good, I was thinking to try a 50/50 mix of Mobil 5w30/0w30 (3 quarts each). Then, check for oil consumption/leaks. However, I can't find the 0w30 anymore, just the new 0w20, which I have no intention of trying.

Is Mobil still making 0w30?
and for those on the fence about the switch to full synth related to oil consumption/leaks, I have zero.

I saw it not long ago at Target but don't know if they still make it or if it was older stock. I use M1 5w-30 also but was thinking of mixing 2 qts of 15-50 with 4 of 5-30 next time to maybe quiet ocassional roller lifter tick when at normal oper. temps.
I wouldn't use 0w-30 unless I lived waaaay up north. Maybe Exxon-Mobil site has info you need.

yeah. he's right, it's best to use a higher viscosity in the summer. the lower viscosity oils will drop in oil pressure in hot weather

I was under the impression that 0w30 could be used in any application 5w30 was used?
At operating temp they are both still 30 weight oil....please advise further.

I put in 10w-30 mobil 1 but I live in the 95 degree, 100% humidity that is the Houston area.

I guess my point is: the first number (i.e. 0,5, or 10) relates to the weight of the oil at cold startup and the second number (i.e. 30) relates to the weight of the oil at operating temperatures, hence, multi viscosity.

Is there some disadvantage to running an 0w30 in SoCal then?
