mod the intake tube... LQ4
OK - so I've been reading that the LQ4 airbox in my truck actually flows pretty good, so a CAI may not really be needed... what I'm interested in is getting some sound out of the intake... and pretty things up a bit.
do the CAI makers sell just the intake 'tube' between the stock airbox and the TB?
is that a possible mod? seems cheaper and would get rid of the big ugly unicorn silencer tube in the engine bay...

Yes you can get a air raid jr kit like I got. Tube $100 and add in a filter $150 from summit.
I've never seen a test side by side, but everyone else on these boards say its works just as well, and I will agree.

I just upgraded to a gauze filter (Air Hog) for $9 off Amazon - it's identical to K&N except orange in color, so I don't need that part - do they just sell the tube alone?

i'm assuming there's not any really any HP increase beyond the filter change - but has anyone dyno'ed this setup?
although, since I upgrade to the airhog filter & new fuel filter - my MPG went up by 1.1MPG!

And if you change to an electric fan you can use the less restricting tube.

there's a hump in the 200-919 so it should clear the shroud right?
