Default Mods for 12 sec.

Hey guys,

I already have a shift kit and flowmaster exhaust. I have also disposed of the rear bumper and replaced with a rollpan, also removed spare tire.

I have a 99 RCSB 4.8, and the mods I'm thinking are...

*Used 5.3 from newer year with less than 50K ($500)

*Wait4Me Custom Tune & New PCM ($***)

*4.10 Gears (I have 285/50/20 tires) ($150)

Total: $800

What much do ya'll think the 5.3 is gonna cost ($500 was my guess) I want it to be newer than 99 but not sure which year does it matter and which one has the most horsepower/torque. Which one would ya'll go with. What other things have to be done. Or can I just buy the motor and slap it in.

My dad and I can put everything in.

The reason I'm going with the 5.3 instead of the 6.0 is because of the price of the motors, plus I would have to get a different trans for the 6.0 or at least rebuild mine. But if I had the money...

What are ya'lls answers, sugestions, opinions, comments, I'd love to hear them all.

What do ya'll think it would run. 13's?

Then Spray it when I get done with that.

On spray, 12's?

P.S. My budget is $1500 I want it in the 12's. I also hate converters, don't want trans. work!

Thanks,
Nick

Idk if you would get to the 13's yet with just that set up.

I think with a big cam (I'm going to suggest the tr224.. however,I'm starting to see better cams now that are more appropriate), 3000 stall or so, build up the tranny just slighty more, vette servo, sticky tires, long tube headers w/ true duals to a less restrictive muffler.. flowmasters sound great, however, magnaflow or dynomax are great for flow... or go with a single chamber exhaust.

I think than you should be well into the 13's and than.. depending on the shot of nitrous.. i would say with a 150 shot you can be in the 12's.

Well if you want into the 12's or 13's are converter should be on top of your list.Get all the bolt on's, long tubes, custom tune, big shot of nitrous, 3000-3200 stall, nice big cam, comp 918 springs. I dont think you would have to get a differen't trans for the 6.0 i thought the 4l60e would bolt right up to it? If you can find a 6.0 for the same price of a 5.3 go with the 6.0 def. Im more the sure the same trans with bolt up to it. Oh yeah get rid of your flowmaster and get something like a magnaflow or somethin differen't from flowmaster they dont flow good.

Gets a hell of alot of free advertising. Im not dissing him Im sure he does an awesome job its just not right for sponsors to pay money to sponsor the site and someone who hasnt paid their dues to get the same kind of publicity.

Anyways back on topic first of all get rid of the tall tires 265/70's or somethin like that you WILL need a stall atleast to get what you want other wise you are going to have a 1000 rpms of slowness. You will need atleast a 150 shot of nitrous. Cam lt headers exhaust(get rid of the flow) stall gears if you have 3.42s if you have 373s dont waste your money put it into nitrous safety stuff.

$1500 and 12 seconds and no torque converter do not go well together

5.3, 4.10 gears, tune, shift kit, a lightened RCSB, and flowmaster exhaust is NOT gonna be in the 13's

sorry to poop on your party...shoot for 13's instead

I think you can get to the 13's without a stall people have done it before. Dont know about the 12's though even with nitrous.

My list
shift kit 100
headers 400
mandrel y pipe-weld up some u bends $50 by far the most cost effective mod
cam 350
intake 250
hp tuners 500

1650 with you doing the work and tuning yourself

free mods: porting polishing throttle body, removing cats, weld in flange as a cutout

You should easily run 13's with the above list, its gonna take time and alot of research too

I would take that budget and get a quality wet-nitrous kit installed. Then just be prepared to blow your tranny. Also, if you don't have some type of limited slip then you need that before anything.
