Daah,I thought they were talking about a new truck.I wouldn't consider a 8.1 or a Duramax for a K5 Blazer just buy a small block crate motor at the desired power level you want and bolt that baby in.

I am talking about an 03-04 GMC 2500HD CCSB 4x4...00Silverado has an 8.1 going into that K-Blazer.

You could make a lot more reliable horsepower with a lot less effort building a Duramax. While I think a TT 8.1 would be awesome, its going to cost a bucket load to build the twin turbo system, on top of the fact that the 8.1 uses weak pistons (check out the guys running supercharged marine 496's). I think you would have to beef up an 8.1 internally to handle any significant amount of boost.
If I were going to get rowdy with an 8.1, I would have the heads ported, run a lumpier cam, throw on some headers and exhaust, and get the thing dyno tuned. The 8.1's have good power potential. The 496 HO Mercury Marine builds is just the truck engine with a lumpier cam and tuning (and a steel crank, but that doesn't add any power), and its rated at 425hp. Most actually dyno around 440hp/520tq, at or under 5000rpm. Thats with stock heads, stock compression ratio, really good flowing exhaust manifolds, and a pretty rowdy cam.
For lots of easy, reliable power I'd go with the duramax, but thats just my 4 dollars worth.

I think your way off on how much money it takes to custom engineer a twin turbo kit for a 8.1.You could buy 3 Duramax's for what it would cost. While it sounds cool, there is no way it would be cost effective compared to a Duramax.I paid $3990.00 for my Duramax, the only way you pay 5k is if you pay full sticker. When you factor in what a 8.1 costs($850.00) it's a well spent $3140.00 upgrade.Just get a Dmax,Hot Juice it and call it a day.

Well I'd figure around $5-8K to build that turbo setup. I figure the DMax option ($4K), 4" exhaust that I want ($1K), and that Edge Hot Juice box ($850) and I am right about there price wise. I am not going to stop with those for the DMax...I am gonna do Quad Comp Stealth tuner ($1k), injectors ($1200), propane ($1K), and some other stuff too so when all said and done I think I will endup spending the same.

Really? Even H/C 8.1 with 7-9psi? If so then screw it, I will go diesel for sure. I really want a CCSB to run 7.49 or faster in the 1/8th mi...ideally a 7 sec flat run. That would pretty much eat anything I should encounter on the street so I'd be content.

7.49 is hauling ***, but the D-Max can do it. A guy on the thedieselpage.com ran 7.6x 1/8 mile in his CCSB 2500HD 4x4 Duramax/Allison. This was still with 100% stock engine. Stock turbo, stock injectors, etc. He was running nitrous, though. I think the truck ran 7.99 on diesel only. I wonder what his times would have been if his truck was a RCLB 2wd.
