Default Which motor I want LQ4 or LQ9

Got a mechanic buddy who just pulled a 6.0 out of a 2001 GMC 2500 HD. Had a rod knocking but still running. What #'s to look for on block?

It's an LQ4. LQ9 wasn't available until 02, and even then it was caddy specific.

Yup. Or after that in the Silverado SS's, Vortec HO, Denali Pickup ( 05-07) and Vortec Max.

For the difference in the engine I would just get a 2005+ LQ4 which has the LQ9/LS2 rods in it and be done. The difference of 0.6:1 Compression is not worth the dollars.

Block will have a big 6.0 cast on it and it will have 317 aluminum heads.

I think 99-00 had the iron heads. '01 should be the 317s

Oh, my mistake. I thought it went to 01'. Weren't the iron heads identical to the 317's but weighed like 40 pounds more?
